F. Vattel Cherry is originally from Chicago. Vattel attended Howard
University and graduated from the Manhattan School of Music. After
graduating, he was a part of the Charles Gayle Trio, Charli Persip's
Superband, David Murray's Big Band, David Pleasant's RiddAthon! and
Cecil Taylor's PTHONGOS. Vattel moved to the Baltimore/Washington area
in 1997 and recorded with Paul Murphy, Joel Futterman, Brother Ah and
John Tchicai among others. In 2002 he was awarded 'Best Jazz Musician'
by the Baltimore CityPaper. As a leader he has recorded 5 CD's. As an
educator he worked for numerous organizations including: Baltimore City
Public School System, Patapsco High School for the Arts , Park School of
Baltimore, Waldorf School of Baltimore, Music and Arts, Morgan State
University and the University of the District of Columbia.
